A raft of misconceptions are floating around about how an African-centred school would work. To my mind, one of the most import is the idea that the project is an attempt to directly address black children's high failure rate. If, as some suggest, the purpose of the school is to rescue failing black students, we can pretty much look forward to plunging attendance and morale, signalling the ultimate failure of the experiment. Rather, the institution should be designed to serve black students of all abilities and levels, because children naturally get inspired as much by each other as by their teachers.

The Leek-Taylor collection, recently acquired by Kings Landing, was studied by Bradley Cross's fourth-year material history seminar class. The collection is a rare piece of New Brunswick's heritage because it contains 180 artifacts from two black families that were connected by marriage. Supreme Court Judge Col. Isaac Allen freed slave George Leek in the early 19th century. Leek then married a First Nations woman and began a family near Kingsclear.
